Kefir and its benefits for pregnant women and women. Kefir, the most beneficial health drink of all time is a gift from nature and not a product of lab experiments or chemical processes. Some say it is a gift from God and go so far to say that God fed Moses and the Israelites with some kind of kefir in the form of manna. Since kefir is organic and all-natural, it is no surprise that it has no known side effects and is perfectly safe to be consumed by pregnant and lactating women. In fact, experts in women’s health recommend pregnant women to take kefir, not just once but regularly. According to Alyson Lippman, Registered Nutritionist, pregnant women can drink kefir to prevent the overgrowth of a bacterium called Group B Beta Strep. Other than the bacterium Strep, yeast infection is also a concern of pregnant women. Such infection can begin in the breasts and could easily be passed to the child as the mother nurses her newborn. If the mother is regularly taking in probiotics, that would reduce the risk considerably. Another women’s health specialist, Valerie Early, who is a also registered dietitian and pharmacy technician, focuses on providing hormonal balance through medical nutrition therapy. The expert dietician tells her clients to take a cup of kefir a day to help protect them from yeast infection, discharge and any vaginal discomfort, especially to women who are over 40 years old. The National Kefir Association (US) not only declares kefir as safe for women but also recommends it. NKA declares, “Pregnant and nursing women are advised to drink kefir in order to absorb essential nutrients, increase immunity and aid the body’s adjustment to hormonal changes. But hormonal imbalances cause problems for women at all life stages, often in the form of irritating and even life threatening infections, such as yeast overgrowth, caused by depletion of good bacteria. Fortunately probiotic-filled Kefir can help prevent and even treat many such infections.”
HOW KEFIR - OUR MOST POTENT PROBIOTIC - HELPS WITH THYROID. Most thyroid conditions are auto-immune diseases. There are billions of lymphocytes and other immune cells in the gut, which protect the body from viruses, bacteria, and other invaders. This is why most people with thyroid conditions also experience frequent bloating, gas, constipation or diarrhea. A diet change will help your gut tremendously. “All disease begins in the gut“, said Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine. Kefir, our super food loaded with probiotic bacteria and yeast, helps line the intestinal lining with these bacteria and creates an immune barrier to pathogenic (bad) bacteria, repairing your gut, its health and, by extension, the health of your entire body, including thyroid.
Kefir for you pets! These days, pet foods can contain up to 70% carbohydrates. These carbs are broken down to sugars, which then fuel the yeast in your pets’ bodies! Too much yeast spells trouble! If you cannot switch to a low carb pet food (like a species appropriate raw food diet) then you will need to supply your pet with something to attack the yeast. This is where our best probiotic Kefir comes into play, yet again, to our rescue! Kefir provides anti-biotic and anti-fungal properties. A must add after the use of antibiotics to restore balance to your pet’s digestive tract. Helps to prevent allergies in your pet. Beneficial for candidiasis and heart problems in pets (as well as humans). Vitamin B will regulate the normal function of the kidneys, liver and nervous system for your pet. Kefir is very safe, even for pets, however, when introducing into your pets' diet, moderation is key, and go slow.
KEFIR FOR BALANCED BLOOD PRESSURE Since high blood pressure increases your risk of serious problems like heart attack and stroke, it’s something you want to address immediately. Your doctor might put you on blood pressure medication to drive that high BP down, but some of these medications come with side effects. Plus, you may not want to be stuck taking meds for the rest of your life. Luckily, it is possible to control high blood pressure without medication. Simple lifestyle changes like losing weight, trimming fat on your waistline, exercising daily, eating healthy and cutting back on alcohol, caffeine and stress can have an amazing effect on your blood pressure. But there may be another simple, delicious way to support healthy blood pressure… Drink a daily glass of kefir. Fermented dairy does your blood pressure good- A recent study from researchers at Auburn University in Alabama and the University of Vila Velha in Brazil found that the fermented dairy beverage kefir could help manage high blood pressure by improving communication between the gut and the brain. Why did kefir bring their high BP down? Well, previous research shows that sometimes a bacterial imbalance in the gut can cause high blood pressure. And studies also show that probiotic supplements can improve blood pressure. So, it makes sense that this fermented, probiotic-rich drink would do the same. But the benefits of kefir went beyond blood pressure… Researchers also found that kefir decreases endotoxin in the blood and improves better intestinal permeability . Intestinal permeability refers to your intestines’ ability to allow some substances to pass through to the rest of your body, while blocking bad bacteria and other harmful substances from doing the same. When your intestinal permeability gets out of whack, the bad stuff finds its way into your blood and can create inflammation that leads to disease. This is called leaky gut syndrome. Researchers also found that kefir restored the balance of four healthy bacteria in the gut and an enzyme in the brain that promotes a healthy nervous system. That’s why they believe kefir may lower blood pressure by improving communication between the gut and the brain. Probiotics have an impact on the gut and the brain, and the gut and brain both have an impact on blood pressure. Adding kefir to your diet- There’s plenty of research in humans showing that eating (or drinking) foods rich in probiotics can improve blood pressure. If you do decide to try it, make sure to buy one without added sugar. Thus, other probiotics which have added sugar might not be the best choice. You don’t want too much of the sweet stuff to counteract the health benefits of this fermented drink.
Air Pollution, Particulate Matter and Inner strength by Kefir Detox! Particulate matter, also called PM or soot, consists of microscopically small solid particles or liquid droplets suspended in the air. The smaller the particles, the deeper they can penetrate into the respiratory system and the more hazardous they are to the body when breathed in. In short, the “pollution” or smog, which has currently engulfed Delhi NCR.The smaller-sized particles – those 2.5 micrometers or less in diameter, called PM2.5 – are of the greatest health concern because they can pass through the nose and throat and be absorbed deep inside the lungs. How does this affect me? Recent studies indicate that PM can have the following effects on our bodies and can cause: • lung irritation, which leads to increased permeability in lung tissue. • aggravation of the severity of chronic lung diseases, causing rapid loss of airway function. • inflammation of lung tissue, resulting in the release of chemicals that can impact heart function. • changes in blood chemistry that can result in clots that may lead to heart attacks. • increased susceptibility to viral and bacterial pathogens leading to diseases like pneumonia What can we do about it? Masks might not be the best answer in this situation as it is equivalent to ensuring that an already laboured system is further forced to extract oxygen through a thick material. Similarly, investing in an air purifier could prove to be counter-productive as it reduces your body’s ability to deal with irritants in the environment. So where does the answer lie? The best answer in this situation is making your insides strong. What all does this entail? This essentially means:- 1. Body should be strong enough to not go into an overdrive, and overreact by causing high levels of inflammation for protection 2. Making sure that your immune system remains active and alert to prevent any attacks from opportunistic bacteria or viruses 3. Ensuring that your body has the ability to absorb the nutrition you feed it to heal any damage caused due to the prevailing environmental condition 4. Detoxification of foreign substances regularly and efficiently All of these to fulfil together definitely seems a tall order, however, nature, through its various gifts and bounty, has provided us yet another example as to how we can save ourselves from a state of extinction that we are so hell-bent on achieving. One such gift now available to us in our country is Kefir. Kefir is the world’s most powerful probiotic drink which originated in cold countries such as Russia and some other European countries. How can a probiotic help a situation where of air pollution or high levels of particulate matter (PM) in the air are wreaking havoc in your system? • Kefir ensures that it heals the lungs quicky, thus preventing permeability of lungs from increasing by acting as an anti-allergic 1. • Kefir considerably reduces and over a period of time eliminates inflammation, which not only heals the lungs and improves their function, but also completely cleans them up of infections. 2. • Inflammation of the lung tissue is similar to what happens in Asthma and bronchitis and kefir has been a great ally in the fight against these. 3 • Kefir has the proven ability to lower cholesterol and thus prevent clogging of the veins and arteries. It also reverses calcination of blood vessels and clears blood vessels. 4. • Kefir significantly boosts the body’s innate immune system, thus preventing infections. Also the good bacteria in kefir are able to fight off pathogenic microorganisms. 5 • Kefir clears the body of environmental toxins, salts, heavy metals, radionuclides and alcoholic products. It’s time we stopped looking at superficial methods for fighting stimuli such as air pollution or particulate matter. You owe it to yourself and your family to make your body strong from within and the immune system robust enough to fight external factors which may cause trouble for your body.
